is pleased to announce a one-day Workshop on 'Reforms, Management
and Modernisation of Distribution System' being organised by
Council of Power Utilities on January 10, 2003 at Casuarina Hall,
India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
Objective
The
need for reforms, management & modernization of Distribution
System has been emphasized at different platforms. A couple of years
back, Council of Power Utilities (CPU) suggested that improvement
of distribution sector is essential for improving financial health
of power supply utilities. For this purpose, short term and long
term measures were suggested.
In
the blue print for power sector development prepared by the Union
Ministry of Power in 2001, it has been emphasized that commercially
sound and self-sustaining SEBs/ State Utilities are key to power
sector development. Distribution Reforms have been given an important
role for this purpose.
An
expert group of CPU discussed this issue at length. Experts from
the two recently-formed distribution companies in Delhi presented
their suggestions to bring the ailing distribution system back to
health. It was felt that a one-day Workshop should be held for wider
participation in the discussion in order to come to a purposeful
conclusion. Accordingly, the Workshop under reference is being organized.
We
invite you to participate in the Workshop. To confirm your participation,
please send us the completed Registration form alongwith the payment.

| About
the Organisers |
|
Council
of Power Utilities (CPU), an umbrella organization of Power Utilities
in India, established in 1983, aims at formulations of solutions
of problem besetting the power supply industry through interaction
between indigenous utilities and also between utilities of developed
and developing countries. In the wake of liberalization, the Council
provides an excellent forum for all the players in the power and
associate sectors like water resources, water ways etc. to seek
solutions and strive for economically and environmentally sustainable
development strategies.
The
Council has been mainly formed to evolve solutions of the problems
connected with the power sector. The important attribute of the
Council is that it is an Association of Power Utilities, trying
to solve the problems of the Utilities in collaboration with other
players in power development business, namely designers, consultants,
manufacturers, investors, policy makers and environmentalists.

| About
Delhi |
|
The
Workshop is being organised in Delhi, the National Capital of India. The
capital city of modern India has behind it centuries of history,
which has enriched its culture.
Delhi
is a city of marvellous contrasts. Its past and present mesh seamlessly
to make it an exciting place to visit. The sprawling modern metropolis
of Delhi enfolds within its limits the remains of seven earlier
cities. Today the imposing forts and tombs of these earlier times
co-exist comfortably with the elegant edifices of the British Raj
and modern high-rise buildings. Cool tree-lined avenues with their
white-washed bungalows are as much a part of the city’s charm as
the ordered chaos of the narrow lanes and busy bazaars of the walled
city. Some of the places of interest include the Red Fort,
Jama Masjid, Purana Qila, Qutab Minar, India Gate, National Gallery
of Modern Art and the splendid Lodi Gardens.
Delhi
is one of the World's best shopping centres. From handicrafts
and antiques to all modern utilities — Delhi's shopping centres
offer you everything under the sun. Delhi’s fascinating bazaars
and markets spill over with the finest that India has to offer -
handicrafts, garments, fabrics and jewellery - making shopping a
special delight.
Weather
At
the time of the Workshop, Delhi will be in the midst of winter.
Winter is generally pleasant and sunny in Delhi though at times
it gets foggy. In January, the Average temperature is 15 Degrees
Celcius, with daytime temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 degrees
Celcius. Nights can however be quite chilly, with temperatures falling
to as low as 5 degrees Celcius. Carrying warm clothes is recommended.
