Overview
Distribution is the most important element of
the electricity supply chain. Inspite of India’s huge
distribution network, only 56% of the households have access
to electricity. The core problem with the power sector has
been poor state of sub- transmission & distribution system
of SEBs and other electricity utilities. In most parts of
India, distribution infrastructure suffers from inadequate
transformation capacities, lack of redundancies, high technical
losses, poor consumer services, absence of IT to address the
issues of reliability & consumer concerns. Considering
the deficiency in the distribution sector including in the
rural electrification, the real challenge in power sector
in India lies in how efficiently the distribution sector could
be managed.
Due to the ongoing reform process in the power
sector, the distribution segment has assumed centrestage and
has received great deal of attention.
